The predecessor of Jinhua Ham Factory-Yongchang Ham Stack was established in 1947, which was located at Jinhua County of Zhejiang Province. It was the biggest ham factory in Jinhua then, and with its products known around China or even throughout the world. As recorded in the fifteenth edition of historical accounts of Jinhua, Jin Shihui was from Dongyang county of Jinhua Region. Dongyang Ham was of the highest grade among ham products in Jinhua Region, and private production of Dongyang Ham was started from Tang Dynasty, thrived in Ming and Qing Dynasty, and was listed as articles of tribute during the period of Wan-li of Ming Dynasty. Jin Shihui took advantage of this and established Yongchang ham industry in Hangzhou in 1930. He purchased hams produced by workshops from his hometown, wholesaled to Hangzhou, made great profit and also helped improve the production of hams of his hometown. However, after Anti-Japanese War, as prices were soaring in Shanghai-Hangzhou Region, and with inflation, the business of Yongchang ham industry was also greatly influenced. In addition to shortages of source of goods in Jinhua ham producing region, Yongchang ham industry could no longer operate in Hangzhou, so it moved to the Jinhua County in 1947, and began to make and consume on their own, and changed its name to Yongchang Ham Stack. Yongchang Ham Stack was shop front and workshop rear, and it was good at producing and selling, and with fast business development. Yongchang Ham Stack had an annual output of seven to eight thousand, and became the biggest among other ham companies, and gained great fame.

Since liberation of Jinhua Region, quantity demands for Jinhua ham as a local famous specialty has been increased rapidly. In order to expand production scale, Jin Shihui united Yuansheng, Jintai, Yuanlong, Hengfeng and other private ham stacks to initiate Jinhua United Ham Production and Sales Joint Venture with annual output of over 24,000 hams. Nevertheless, due to poor management and fire disaster in 1952, which burnt main power house, the enterprise went into paralysis. By the production year of 1954, the output had decreased to no more than 8,000 hams. To save the enterprise, it took the lead to apply public-private partnership in Jinhua Region in 1954. Its name was changed to Jinhua Ham Factory, with Gong Runlong acting as factory director and Jin Shihui as vice plant manager of private party. As a result, the output in the same year returned to over 18,000 hams. In 1956, the first new workshop was built on Western Jiefang Road, and the factory Regions were more than doubles. In that year, the output reached more than 38,000 hams and the product was awarded Certificate of Excellent Product by Zhejiang Province. In 1957, ham output was increased to more than 66,000, making it the first production peak year after public-private partnership. However during Great Chinese Famine, ham output declined due to drastic reduction of sources. In the autumn of 1960, the factory was merged into State-run Jinhua Meat Processing Factory, becoming a ham processing workshop of it. In ensuing 4 years, annual output of ham is less than one thousand.

Since Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee, party and government leaders of Jinhua Region have paid further attention to ham production. In 1979, the ham workshop was separated from Meat Processing Factory and independent factory was founded with the name of Jinhua Ham Factory. It produced over 50,000 hams in current year and realized profits of more than 128,000 Yuan. In 1980, the factory built a new plant in Western Wujiang Road covering an area of 10,000 square meters. In the next year, it yielded more than 60,000 hams annually and its products won National Gold Award. In December 1983, Urte Fudish, meat expert of the former Federal Republic of Germany visited the factory and tasted the ham. He praised that “Jinhua Ham is the first-class food and first-rate technology in current world.” In 1985, Jinhua Region was cancelled and changed into Jinhua City. As a result, Jinhua Ham Factory was changed into Zhejiang Jinhua Municipal Ham Factory. Its products won National Gold Award consecutively and won Eagle Award for New Excellent Product of Zhejiang Province in the second year. In 1988, the factory was awarded the title of “Provincial Advanced Enterprise”. In 1990, Jinhua Ham won National Gold Award once again.

In 1994, Jinhua Ham Industrial Co., Ltd. was founded by restructuring of the enterprise and Zhejiang Jinhua Municipal Ham Factory became subsidiary enterprise of the company. As there have been numerous Jinhua ham workshops branded Jinhua Ham since reform and opening up, Jinhua hams with good and bad quality are intermingles in the market. To create its own brand and improve commodity value, our factory applied for trademark of “Jindu” in 1995, and was also awarded titles of Famous Trademark of Jinhua City, Famous-brand Product of Jinhua City and Famous-brand Product of Zhejiang Province. By 2006, Jinhua Municipal Ham Factory had become the agricultural leading enterprise of Jinhua City with fixed capital of 47.83 million Yuan and annual output of 150,000 Jinhua hams. Our factory possesses a professional and technical talent team with rich experience in ham processing, quality management and marketing. In addition, it has set strict sanitation and quality inspection system. 70% of its products are sold to Hong Kong, Singapore and other regions. It is the only ham producer that exported domestic Jinhua Ham to Singapore, which was registered successfully in Origin Bureau of Singapore as early as 1992. In recent years, it has been exploring Japanese market positively in the hope to take a place in Japanese market. At the time of conducting foreign trade, the factory also pays attention to domestic market. Rising catering industry and growing living standard have brought opportunity for development of ham industry. Its products are famous for good quality, therefore they are quite popular in hotel, restaurant and large supermarket of various cities. Central leaders such as Zhu Rongji, Song Ping and Chen Muhua have been to our factory for inspection and made high appraisal of Jinhua ham.

With development of market economy, ham industry develops rapidly and competitiveness becomes increasingly fierce. There are various counterfeit and shoddy products in the market, which has made drastic impact on ham industry. Under the circumstances, the enterprise leadership actively expands management concept to seek development in competitiveness under huge pressure. They believe quality-oriented concept. On the basis of inheriting traditional processing technology, they continue to innovate to make fragrance of Jinhua Ham spreading faraway forever!
